Scheduling

Scheduling courses and exams into classrooms is a gargantuan, complex task. We schedule over 3,000 discrete courses, comprising more than 8,000 sections, each fall and spring, along with more than 1,000 sections in summer session and several hundred each winter. The total number of fall and spring course sections has increased by more than 25 percent in recent years, with summer and winter growing at an even faster rate. Nonetheless, we maintain very high levels of customer service and satisfaction, and our staff prides itself on going above and beyond the call of duty.

We also schedule tens of thousands of academic, student, and outside group events, from placement testing to summer orientation, Rutgers Day to special conferences, that we host throughout the year. Please take special note of the information we've made available on the protection of minors who are attending events and programs on campus.

The timeline for scheduling classrooms is different for courses, exams, and events. When our course scheduling begins for a given semester, about six months before that semester starts, we send a note to departments and programs letting them know our system is open and mentioning any news, notes, or advice related to class scheduling. For information on common hour and final exam scheduling, please call or email our office.
